How to Take a Screenshot and Post a Chart

Chart Posting Instructions

In order to promote learning within a community, its members must be willing to share their knowledge and expertise.  In that vein, IntelliTraders has created the Chart Posting section of the site.  Here, the community can post charts to have a question answered or create a discussion.

In order to post charts, it is necessary to be able to take a screenshot of the chart you're interested in posting.  We suggest either following the two methods below or checking out one of these two links:

Method 1

IntelliTraders has developed a desktop application for posting your charts directly to the site.  It's as simple as entering your username and password,, using the application to take a picture of your chart, and posting.  The entire process takes less than 2 minutes.

Method 2

The second method is very simple.  Some keyboards have a "PrtSc" button that will allow you to save a copy of the current scene on your monitor to your clipboard.  Once done, you will be able to paste the image to your favorite image editing program (such as MS Paint),  Save this file as a .png.

Then, simply post your chart.

Method 3

The third method is for those of us without a "PrtSc" button available.  IntelliTraders suggests download the excellent and free MWSnap screenshot capturing program.

Step 1:

Follow the following link and download MWSnap from CNET to your computer.

Step 2:

One you've installed MWSnap, open it.  To take a screenshot, select Capture > Any Area.

Step 3:

Select the portion of your screen you would like to save.

Step 4:

Save the image as a .png.

Posting a Chart

Proceed to the chart posting area and upload your chart.  To achieve this, simply click "Upload" select your chart.

Then, crop your screenshot to select only the area you want to upload.

Finally, save the posting and you're done!

Congratulations, you've posted a chart.
